Tour description
Our day starts in Heraklion. After getting to know your guide and a short presentation of the excursion, you will head to the Livadi plateau. The mountainous, provincial road climbs the eastern slopes of Psiloritis and offers incredible views of Heraklion and the Cretan Sea. Soon we reach Krousonas and through a dirt road, which runs parallel to the homonymous gorge, to the plateau. The place is beautiful with thousands of pear and apple trees scattered all over. If you visit it in the spring, you will see them in bloom. Through a passable dirt road, we will reach the village of Krana, where the "Shepherd's Shelter" is located.
There, depending on the season, you are welcome to join us in workshops for small groups, such as sheep milking and cheese making, growing vegetables and mountainous herbs, as well as cooking using traditional Cretan recipes. In early spring join us in the vineyard, preparing next year’s crop. Sheep shearing can be both entertaining and laborious. In autumn, some of the year’s most recreative evenings take place at a kazani (tsikoudia distillery).
Αfter this full of energy day, you will taste the delicious Cretan cuisine with local ingredients.
The return to Heraklion will be through the provincial road Heraklion - Anogia.
